In a restaurant that charges a 10% service charge would you still leave a tip for the waiter/waitress?

Went to a restaurant bill was 拢180 with 拢10% service charge. We were unsure whether we should still pay a tip as we had just paid the extra 拢20 on our food bill. Can u help with this grey area, what is the proper etiquette?|||I always leave a tip but the last time I was charged a 10% service charge I asked the waitress who gets the money, as she was a new start she got the duty manager to speak to me.He informed me that none of the staff got any of the money and if I liked he could get me another bill without the 10% as in very small print at the bottom of the menu it stated that the charge was optional. He done this for me and I then gave the 拢15 to the staff. He thanked me and said he wished more of the customers would do as I had(obviously the owner was not around at the time)|||As others have said it does depend on how rich you are but I would say yes, leave the waiter/ waitress a tip, what is an extra few pounds for the waiter. This extra money you paid isn't going to the waiter/ waitress so why deprive them of an extra something. If the waiter/ waitress's behaviour throughout the evening was slightly rude then no, leave no tip but if they were courteous and polite leave the hard worker a tip, things are getting expensive these days so I'm sorry if I sound at all snobby asking you to leave a tip.|||If you enjoyed the service from your waiter(s)/waitress(es) then tip unless you feel inclined otherwise.

If you thought it was unsatisfactory then there is no reason to feel bad about not tipping.

I usually just tip 10% where I'm happy to do so, if there were 2 people serving us then that's half the amount of work for each so they share the same amount two ways etc.

There is no grey area, just do what you feel comfortable with =)|||The service charge is discretionary. If you prefer not to have it added to your bill then just tell the waiter to have it taken off. It is now illegal in the UK to use the service charge to "top up" wages - staff have to be paid at least the minimum wage rate per hour. Tips are, therefore, extra and you can leave what you like in cash.|||If you feel that the waiter/waitress was exceptional at their job and done their best to make you feel welcome, attend to your order etc, then you may feel like leaving a tip. It is however up to your own discretion, so they don't really expect it, but do appreciate it.|||if they already charged a service fee, I don't think you need to add more to your bill. Or you could have asked the waiter what the service charge consist of.|||depends how rich you are.

they may be getting paid less than legal amount and the tips help them to survive lol

u never know!|||Yes. Its rude not to leave at least a total of %18.
