What do you think of the compulsory 10% service charge imposed by hoteliers & restaurants?

Personally, I don't mind paying it when their service is up to expectation. It's only those times when they're not that I feel cheated. What's your take? Would be interesting to hear from the hotelier's point of view, too|||Most of the big hotels are operated by Wesern companies where tipping is the custom and culture, e.g. England... Since it is not the custom and culture in Malaysia and other Asian countires to leave a tip...these hotels and big Wesern type restaurants follow the old tradition by imposing a compulsory 10% service charge to replace voluntary tipping. If you want to, you can make a fuss and refuse to pay that 10%, offering a lesser amount instead, or none. That 10% service charge is not legally enforcable.|||said201064@ymail.com exemple@yahoo.fr

|||I am unaware that any "compulsory" service charge exists in any restaurants. Service charge is always optional. You can just leave the cash on the table for the cost of the meal without service charge if you so wish, or ask them to recalculate the final bill for you without service charge if you are unable to work it out or wish to pay by card.

I leave a tip nearly every time, but if the service was bad, then I just dont.
