My apartment sent me my rent payment notice and it has a 5.00 service fee on it . Can they charge me the 5.00 plus their rent when it doesn't mention it in the lease.|||re read lease carefully . file class action lawsuit .|||Nope. If it's not in the lease, they can't charge it. But, if you are taking advantage of an amenity that is not in the lease, like dropping off your rent check in the office instead of mailing it to a P.O. Box, then the charge would be permitted for that service. But they would have to give you the option of paying only the amounts and charges specified in the lease.
So, the answer depends on what you are consuming at the property and if everything you use or do is covered in the lease as well.
Good Luck!|||They can only charge what was specified in the lease and any lease addendums that you agreed to. So, for instance, if they're charging a $5 service fee because you pay in cash, or by check, or because they provide you a paper invoice, or whatever--if it's specified in the lease, you owe it. If the charge is not mentioned anywhere in the lease, they shouldn't be charging that.|||NOPE, if it's not in lease. READ lease very carefully, then call and find out what this is about. Some management charge a fee for two checks, for late payment, whatever, but fees must be disclosed IN ADVANCE, in writing.|||Unless your lease provides for it, no they can not. PERIOD.
However if your lease has run its initial term and is now month-to-month then they can charge the fee once they've given you 30 days notice.|||They must give you 30 days notice for new fees or rent increases unless local ordinances specify otherwise.|||the service fee in some large complexes could be for water as the whole complex must pay per unit|||No, illegal|||What is the service fee for. How much do gender selection service charge?
If possible, please provide websites.|||IUI--%26gt; 6,000
IVF--%26gt; 12, 400
IUI you have a 60% chance of getting the chosen gender. IVF 99% chance.
I'd go with IVF but the catch is you are more likely to get more than one baby (twins, triplets) if you do that. So do you want to chance paying 6k for IUI and getting the wrong gender?|||If you go to a service your looking at thousands out of pocket as insurance companies will not cover this. What you could do is try to conceive the gender naturally. It's not 100% but some of these natural methods swear it works. here is this website for natural gender selection http://www.in-gender.com/|||If I chose to have a girl instead of having a boy naturally, that means I wouldn't have my son. When a venue says that the tax is added to the entire bill, does that include the 21% service charge?
What I mean by this is, is there tax on the service charge, also?|||Is that a 21% service charge or a 21% gratuity charge? They are distinctly different animals. The venue cannot tax gratuities, but service charges may be taxable depending upon the state in which the venue is located.|||Is it tax or are they adding grat to the bill. Tax they have to. How much do I charge for Australian Cattle dog stud service?
I have a 3-year-old Australian Cattle Dog (blue heeler). He just contributed to the first and only littler with my other blue heeler. When I was selling the puppies, a man asked me how much I would charge for stud service. I had never considered doing that before. What is the average stud service price for Australian Cattle Dogs?|||You seem to really love both of your dogs, so I am urging you to reconsider what you are thinking of doing. First, your accidental litter was caused by you not getting your dogs fixed when you got them. Pets really don't need to remain intact, and if you have a male and female, it is the best thing to do.
Australian Cattle dogs are one of the hardest breeds to raise and train. They can be very aggressive and are not usually good with children. Because of this, many ACDs are dying in kill shelters every year. People turn them in because they cannot control them and often feel threatened by the dog.
These dogs were bred to do a job, and not allowing them to do this is a sure way to make an unhappy ACD.
ACD rescue groups get tons of calls from owners who can't wait to get these dogs out of their homes. Many have bitten people in the family, or are completely out of control from lack of real training. These groups spend quite a lot of time rehabilitating the dogs, and some of them can't be saved.
I know that ACD puppies are adorable, and the adults are striking-looking, but please consider what might happen to the puppies you help bring into the world.
If you are wondering where I am coming from with this, I am the owner of a beautiful rescued female Blue Heeler who was beaten, abused, starved and let loose on the streets to live before she was a year old. I rescued her from a kill shelter where she had 15 days left to live.
Her rehabilitation has been long and hard, and a different owner may have had her put down for her fear biting and aggression to small children. There just aren't enough people out there who really understand this breed.
Please reconsider what you are thinking of here, and don't bring any of these dogs into the world without being able to give them a home where they can do what they were bred for.|||You don't have a clue about breeding lady. You are obviously a backyard breeder.
Just to let you know, people like you (BYB's) are the biggest contributor to the overpopulation of dogs.
I know you don't know (probably don't care) about all the dogs being put down because of too many dogs and not enough homes. Yet you have the nerve to bring another litter of ill-bred dogs into the world. Why don't you just stop, get your dogs spayed/neutered and let your dog be a pet.
Stop using her and him as money making machines.
The only reason to breed is for the betterment of the breed and I'm SURE your not doing that.|||Depends what shows ahs he done%26gt; What are his parents, greandparents, g grand parents ects back ground? What s his OFA scores?

How much should I charge for computer service?
I have less time for doing favors for family and friends, so I want to charge them for the computer repair/services I'm often bombarded with.
The usual routine includes a fresh install of operating system, installation of anti-virus protection software, office software, cd/dvd burning software any personal software they have and making sure the system is up to date with all service packs, etc.
What is this worth in today's market?|||I located a huge directory of repair shops. http://www.findcomputerrepair.com/Hawaii-Computer-Repair.html I'd try visting a few of them and see if they can assist you.|||My cost for basic PC repair is $30 flat rate, plus parts. This assumes they bring it to my workshop. My shop doesn't charge very much because most of my techs can work on numerous PCs at once without any trouble and the average repair only takes a few minutes of actual work.
I charge $200 an hour for onsite network or server installations and configurations.
Penetration testing is handled on a per case basis.
The general exception to this is warranty service, which is done at no cost to the customer. HP, Samsung, Lexmark, etc all have contract rates for my shop.
EDIT: If you can't fix something in less than an hour without reinstalling Windows, you're not very good.|||If it's your friends and family and a cash job then remember you have to do it cheaper than the pros :-(
Definition of a professional is the person that gets paid and even tho you can do the same job you are doing it for cash :-)
Have a set price don't do the hourly rate. Fresh install 30-50 bucks|||30-40$ (depending on where you live and who the person is)
I wouldn't charge my family though, Thats kind of...not cool.
I would charge everyone, but good friends and family though.
Good friends you can ask for a solid in return. Like "hey just hook me up with dinner tonight and we will call it even" kind of thing.
I say its a good idea, go for it. My dad is a computer person and has the same problem. EVERYONE asks him to fix there computer and such which normally needs a fresh install.
Anyhow,
hope this helps, good luck|||It is always free to family. Friends I trade beer for services rendered.
If you have time to do it for money, then you have time to do it...|||Charge them, but give them a discount. This is your family we're talking about.|||I am willing to do this for free, but the usual price is $50, cheaper than Geek Squad!

When paying service charge where does the money go to?
Is it included in the company till or is it for the waiter / waitress to keep?
Also is it optional whether you want to pay it or no? (in the UK)
Thanks|||In the UK you have the legal right to reduce your bill by the amount of the service charge if you feel that the service you have been given was not adequate and did not warrant paying extra for.
I strongly disagree with a service charge being included. When I go out for a meal I will decide whether or not the service warrants a tip - and I will decide how much to give.
Things are probably different in the US, where tipping is practically compulsory. Fortunately we haven't reached that stage yet in the UK.
Why is it so important to tip a waiter that gives good service yet you would never consider tipping the shop assistant that bends over backwards to help?|||Ok the service charge you see on your receipt is NOT optional, you can't refuse to pay it if the service was bad - it is TOTALLY COMPULSORY. Unlike America where you are forced to tip the waiters and if you don't they will never serve you again - here in the UK service charges are compulsory.
Restaurants want to increase prices on their menus all the time but are afraid that their items will look too expensive if they do and that their customers will desert them for cheaper restaurants. So what they tend to do in the UK is to introduce a compulsory service charge at the end of your bill. Effectively they are charging you for the so called service - the waiter or waitress bringing you food to your table. The money goes to the restaurant owner. It does NOT go to the individual waiter or waitress who served you. It is just another way of jacking up the price of food without you complaining too much.
So if you were not satisfied with the service, you would be expected to go to the manager at the end of your meal to complain. The manager would then hear your complaint and if and only IF he agreed with you, he would deduct something from your bill - NOT NECESSARILY the full service charge on your receipt. The waiter or waitress would have had to have made some major mistakes in serving you for him to do that.
Lets be honest here, if you can afford to eat out regularly in this recession, you can afford to pay the service charge so why bother about it? Just enjoy your life of luxury eating out and be thankful that you are not part of the masses suffering at home who are forced to buy take aways because they can't afford to eat out in restaurants anymore.|||Usually the service charge is shared out amongst all the staff, not just the waiter who served you.
In theory it's optional, but you wouldn't normally decline to pay it unless the service was truly awful.|||If the service charge is listed on the menu, then it is a condition of service that you pay it. If you don't like it, you go elsewhere.

Sheltered Accommodation help with SERVICE CHARGE and SUPPORT CHARGE?
I live in a new bungalow and i have a letter from Magna Housing Assosiation and i am only 58 years old and i cant wait to move in next week, however i got the letter saying Rent = 拢90.01 a week and thats dear but thats life so its ok, but what about service charge and support charge? i dont need these services so can i cancel them or reduce them ALOT?? BIG HELP! x|||Didn't you discuss any of this before accepting the tenancy (or whatever it is)? You should not be having to pay for services that you don't need but if your don't need them why live in sheltered accommodation? It seems to me that, unless you discussed this from the outset, you will be paying for things you do not, yet, need. You should ask to see your contract (in fact you should have a copy of your own).|||The service charge could be to cover the freeholder of the building if it was sold as a leasehold property to the Housing Association, to cover the wages of the staff who work in the building, perhaps fuel , water rates, council taxes, all the types of payment you were paying in your previous property. There may be lifts in the building that have to be serviced, also community washing machines and equipment in the communal rooms.|||you should ring them up and ask them if its all included in the rent. i would have thought you,d have received a breakdown of everything in with your rent. ask them for this.|||I think you can apply for Supporting People assistance in a case like this; living in sheltered accommodation. Get in touch with your local Council and ask them about it.|||where is that I think that is high , but service charges are not included in rent nor support charges unless they supplied a breakdown and that is total rent .|||NO YOU CANT REDUCE THEM , THE TERMS COME WITH SHELTERED ACCOMMODATION, AND YES THEY ARE HIGH CHARGES ,
Why do they charge for internet service in most Vegas Hotels?
I see that most Vegas Hotels charge for internet service.
Why is that?
Some charge $20 a day which is ridiculous!|||Though I agree the charge is high, the casino/hotel is in the business of making profit. If you spend time on internet you are not going downstairs gambling, eating or seeing the shows.
Are you coming to Vegas for entertainment you cannot get in your hometown? If you are there for business, not pleasure, then use of an internet is logical. Otherwise, leave the computer home|||If you need to do more than check in for your flight there's an Internet cafe on West Charleston (Cyber Smoothie Cafe) near Red Rock Canyon that charges $5 per hour. Most of the Las Vegas strip Internet cafes charge $5 for 15 minutes.|||Because they do not want you in your room surfing the internet when you should be down in their casino gambling. That is why there are only a few television stations on the TV in your room. Just because they don't want you sitting in your room watching TV.|||Because people will pay for it.
I've noticed a lot of high end hotels charging a minimum of $10 a day, while inexpensive motels usually provide free internet.|||Because they are a business not a charity and love to squeeze us dry,
go to internet cafe its cheaper.

How is witricity going to charge for its service and keep it from being hacked?
I love the idea of wireless electricity, but I'm confused as to how they are going to charge for the service. Flat rate? Some other sort of reader? And what's to stop my neighbor from stealing my electricity?|||there is no such thing as wireless electricity, it is usually a magnetic field that gets converted back into electricity by the device the energy is being sent to, and the only way someone could steal it, would be if they were placing their items right next to the box that provides the energy, they are not strong enough to go for more than a few cm.
as for the cost, probably have it on a data/power rail, so they can constantly steal your money(this can be changed with tools) or they will just sell the main box, and you just plug it in|||Their website claims that the service would only be available from a few centimeters to several meters. Therefore, it would likely be a device inside your home that plugs into the wall and broadcasts electric power that is received by some sort of device. Without that device, it would not function. Therefore, you would be using your existing electricity to power the devices in your home wirelessly. I would also assume that they have some sort of encryption protocol in each device that will only connect to the "base" from the same system, thereby eliminating theft, or at least greatly reducing the opportunity.

How much should I charge per hour for organic home cleaning service?
I want to start a organic cleaning service in my area of Essex but don't know how much to charge for this service. I will be using 100% enzyme based products which are green and eco friendly. I will be targeting white collar areas.|||The usual price per hour is about 拢10.00, but if you offer organic service, you can put another 拢2.00 per hour.|||You need to calculate how much expense it will cost you to use materials and stuff and then add ,for instance, half bottle for 4拢, cloths and stuff for 1拢 then add the average wage for a cleaner in ur area it might be 6-7拢 or so ,, then it will be 拢12-拢13 an hour .
I recommend to charge per chores that will be clearer , more incoraging for customers as there wont be there any wasted time to be charged for. for instance, u charge 15拢 for cleaning a room, or 4拢 for cleaning a garment etc..
I had hired a cleaner who spent 9 hours to clean 4 room, that they shd be done by 4 hours maximum since then I dont hire cleaners who charge per hour, no offence but the client dont know you yet !!
Good luck|||I own a cleaning service in Nashville, TN %26amp; our rates aren't based off our competition or any type of industry standard. You need to find out what other cleaning companies in your area are charging and go from there. It is different all around the country.
Also there are a lot of people who could not care less about Green. They just want their home cleaned with products that won't damage and a good price.|||$15 an hr

How much should I charge for stud service?
I have a 3 year old male black tri colored pit bull. He carries the Gotty bloodlines. His parents were both purple ribbon champions. He is UKC and ADBA registered. I was just wondering how much I should charge for his stud service.|||My pug is a stud, when they breed, $250. When the pups are born, another $250, sometimes, I just have pick of the litter...which to me is a better deal, but I don't have the room for another dog...
Sorry if this doesn't help much, my pug has a pedigree, and was a champion show dog.|||What health testing has he had done? Health testing all done and clear, and some sort of title.. Check to see what a puppy goes for in your area and that's normally what the stud fee is going to be.. Say you would get $2000 for 1 pet puppy, then $2000 would be your stud fee...|||"Purple Ribbon" only means that all of a dogs ancestors have been UKC registered for however many generations. It isn't any kind of accomplishment.
What has your dog accomplished? Has he won a conformation show? Has he taken a trophy at a weight pull? Has he helped a little old lady across the street? Has he accomplished ANYTHING other than eating and crapping? How about his parents, grandparents, and great grand parents? Have they won anything? Has your dog or any of its ancestors ever produced winning dogs when bred to other dogs? These are the questions that real dogmen and women are going to want answered before you can expect a high dollar price for pups or stud fees.
What it all boils down to is, how much are people going to be willing to pay? If you can find someone who will pay $200 or $300 as a stud fee, then you should be very happy. If your dog is a champion, his parents are champs, and all of his grannys are champs, then you can reasonably expect more money. That doesn't mean you'll get it. The people who are willing to pay high prices are those who are going to be traveling the country, and maybe even foreign countries, showing and weight pulling their dogs. Generally, these people already have their own stock, or are going to buy from someone else who has already put in their work to make a name for their bloodline. If you do get a high price, even if you have done all of that work and your dog is really that good, it will be the exception, not the rule.
Don't expect that to last. The people who buy your pups and raise those pups are going to want to breed them too, sell their pups, and charge their stud fees. You will be creating your own competition.
Most people, and I was no exception, get into whatever breed of pedigreed dogs with dollar signs in their eyes. Most, like I did, quickly realize that dog breeding is nothing more than an expensive hobby. The only people who are ever going to be lucky enough to break even on it, much less make a profit, are those who go around to conformation shows, weight pulls, etc, and actually compete and WIN with their dogs.
Gotti? Are you speaking of RedBoy crossed bloodlines?
Anyway, I quit selling puppies. If I have any litters off of the two dogs I have right now, they will go to my friends whom I know will properly care for them. There are a lot of idiots out there. And if they do something stupid with them, like fight them, and get into trouble, the law will next have you in their crosshairs. We all know that breeders cannot be responsible for what someone else does with their dogs. But if someone buys a German Shepherd, is irresponsible with it, and gets into some trouble with the law, it will be buried in the back of the paper (If it even gets reported at all), the owner will be blamed (Appropriately), the kid it killed will be blamed for teasing the dog, and all is as it should be.
When pits are involved, it is the breed's fault, the owners are drug dealers, and the guy they bought it from is somehow involved, even if he isn't.
Do your thing, but be careful, and be prepared to never get a dime, just in case. Don't have any litters or trade a stud fee for pups unless you have the space, time, and money to raise those pups yourself, if they don't sell.
You won't be doing anybody who loves this breed, or the breed itself, any favors if you find yourself forced to sell cheap or give away pups to irresponsible people because you can't afford to keep them.

Just because the parents were champions, doesn't automatically make the offspring good breeding stock.|||people I know only want AKC registered pups only. So ukc and adba means nothing. I do check up on them and people know they mess up with my pups I will repose's them.

How much should I charge for cleaning service at home?
I just started my own cleaning service after being laid off from my job. I got my first call, in the voice mail she said she is from the Plantation subdivision, so these are large homes. I was thinking about charging $60 for a regular cleaning. But she wants a cleaning ever week or every other week. So I know if that's the case I should go down on my price. Right? How much do you guys think I should charge?|||No, you don't go down in price! You dance with joy because you have a 'regular' client!
Seriously, I am not familiar with where you are located, and that plays a big part in calculating residential cleaning charges. It also depends on exactly what this person expects you to do each week and how big the house is (sq ft). Do you have a price chart for sq ft for general cleaning (vacuuming, dusting, counters, mop floors, bathrooms)? And a chart for add-ons-dishes, laundry, window cleaning, etc.?
Try to see if you can meet with her in person and ask what she is looking for. Ask what she has been getting and paying. Before you do that try calling some of your local cleaning businesses and ask what their hourly or per house rate is for what services. Some will try to set an appointment, just go on to the next one!
I have some resources for you on the Squidoo lens below. One for Residential that will give you everything-and I mean everything- you'll need to really get started right. Price charts, billing, contracts, finding customers and more. It's very reasonably priced, too!
I'm happy you're finding a great way to make a living since you've been laid off! Go get 'em!!|||free... :)|||Professional cleaners in my local area charge between $100 to $130 per day, even if they clean each week.

What is a service charge?! (at a restaurant!) Do i still leave a tip?!?!?
Im having a party, and the restaurant is charging me a service charge because my party is larger than 5- IS A SERVICE CHARGE A TIP? Should i still leave a tip in addition to the service charge?!! SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIn!|||A service charge is typically for something the restaurant does that goes beyond their typical customer service, like adding a fee for delivery or carry out or extra to-go containers. Because you are having a "party", they will most likely be dedicating a waiter to your table, and he/she won't be able to service their normal amount of tables during your meal. Also, you will more than likely be occupying more than one table - another potential loss for the restaurant - one larger party rather than 2-3 or more smaller parties. Where I am, the limit is usually 8 or more people at a table for this service charge, and it is considered the gratuity.
When you get there before the party, just ask the manager if the tip is included in the service charge. I am sure they are asked this quite frequently. And, even if the tip is included, if your server(s) give you excellent service, tip them a little extra at the end of the meal.|||Yes, a service charge is a tip, you dont need to leave anything else, but it is welcome.

Why do some buffets have service charge?
Isn't the whole point of a buffet that you get up off your phat *** and get the food yourself, no outside service needed?|||There is still a service element - they put the food there, oragnise the plates, wash the plates. Still, it isn't really very good, I don't tend to pay it.|||For the use of the crockery and the staff needed to set it up.|||Some people can't see the forest for the trees....
When you eat at a buffet, your food is already prepared. No waiting 10-30 minutes for an entree to show up. Sure, you have to get the food yourself, but would you rather wait all that time to eat than get your food immediately and start digging in?
As for the service charge issue, are you saying that you retrieved EVERYTHING yourself? Your drinks, too? How about napkins and dinnerware? And who cleans up after you? Takes away your dirty dishes? Refill your drinks?
I don't see many buffet restaurants that implement this service charge. Perhaps it's becoming a new trend to retain servers who work at buffet restaurants. I'm not sure if the service charges are going to the floor servers, but it would make sense as quite a number of people absolutely refuse to tip at buffet restaurants even if they are getting some table service as mentioned above. The fact is that these servers are making about the same hourly as full-service waiters, maybe a bit more but unlikely. I'm a labour contractor. Is service tax to be charged on entire salary payment including my service charge or only on my service charge in the bill?. Pls. carify|||Dear friend,

hope u have the got a satisfactory answer.

Tipping waiters , when there is service charge ?
this is something i never understood , to tell the truth i don't tip because i'm already paying service charge which is usually around 15% on the bill itself , but whoever i'm with usually tips , should i tip even thou i'm already paying the service charge , won't i be paying for service twice ?
a waiter once told me that they don't get the service charge. then who does ?
so what are your thoughts when it comes to tipping when you're already paying service charge of 15%+|||I f i was already paying 15% service.......Hell No would i tip|||it depends in which resturants. Some pay the waiters a minimum salary and the tips is the rest.|||My kind of rule of thumb on this is that if a service charge has applied then I don't tip, unless the waiter I've had was particularly good. It was maybe just that at that restaurant that that waiter told you they never got the service charge because that's where it's supposed to go, which is why waiting staff are usually minimum wage- i.e the restaurant doesn't (in theory) need to pay more than that because the service charge and/or tips supplements that. I disagree with that, I know for myself that waiting is hard work and I think if waiting staff got paid a decent wage to start with then standards of service in restaurants would be much higher but I'm just an ex-waitress so what would I know?|||of course hes going to tell you that if he wants a tip.
if gratuities are charged on your bill then the waiters all get a share.on their paycheck but as for "service charge" . i would ask what exactly that is for|||Well, I live in Germany at the moment, and they add a service charge to the bill as well. The custom here is to just leave whatever change of a dollar is left over on the table for a tip, so if my bill is 12,49鈧?and I give him 15鈧? I will just give the waiter the ,51鈧?change and pocket the 2鈧?coin I get back.|||The service charge is "in lieu of" tipping and is to make sure that the staff get what they would have. If you tip in addition to paying the service charge, you might be paying an equivalent of 30% for the service of the wait staff, and I think that is excessive.
If you have a party of more than 8 people, some restaurants automatically put on a service charge or a cover charge.
Even in France where service is included in the price of restaurant meals, it is customary to leave a few extra Euros for the server.|||A service charge is a tip.|||if you are paying a service charge then you don't tip.
check with the waiting staff if they receive money in leiu of tips.
if they do not, and you particularly want your waiter to have the tip, then you can deduct the service charge from the bill, and pay the waiter the cash directly. service charges are not compulsory, although many establishments ike you to think they are.
i used to work in a restaurant that had service charge, and the mean old git would only give me 拢5 per week in lieu of tips. one table would cover that, so the rest he was coining in himself!
dont be afraid to ask your waiter, and assert yourself with the management if necessary.|||If there is a service charge built in, you don't need to tip unless you feel they did exceptionally well and then that's up to you. The tip is normally the service charge :)|||There is usually a service charge there for larger parties because the server will end up working twice as hard. Some nicer resteraunts might have service charges no matter how many people you have. They have this because the waiter works their butt off for less then minimum wage and people still dont tip them. If you had great service and will definelty be coming back then of course you can always tip more then the service charge. If the service was bad and you wouldnt of tipped more then the service charge anyways then no dont tip more. But its there becuase lots of people dont botter to tip at all.|||tipping devalues the person who served you.
a waiter once told me that they don't get the service charge. then who does ?
so what are your thoughts when it comes to tipping when you're already paying service charge of 15%+|||I f i was already paying 15% service.......Hell No would i tip|||it depends in which resturants.

Are you in favor of the proposed lowering/pegging of service charge by restos by 3% instead of customary 10%?
Restos/hotels are charging clients/customers by 10-15% service charge mandatorily, aside from the tips, so a proposed bill by Cong. Magtanggol T. Gunigundo has proposed a measure to limit the imposition of service charges. what do you think?|||Definitely not in favor. This would mean that those working in hotels and restaurants would earn less. These jobs are too often the lifeblood of less fortunate families. Woman with children, who have little education are often in these positions and this change would hurt them immensely. Still today, although not very rewarding intellectually, these jobs are well paying occupations that allow our society to survive with more dignity and decency than otherwise. Those who attend these establishments are more often than not, pretty well off in life. Why would we push, once again, in favor of the rich and take from the poor. It's outrageous!
What is the av. fee for a service charge and adding freon to my a/c? My unit takes the r22 if that helps any,?
It is just a warmer than usual.|||depending on the area you live( cost of living ) here in the south $70.0 an hour plus the cost of the freon per pound which can be $7 - $10 dollars a pound.... so unless you have a sizable leak it should cost under $100.0|||You only need freon if you have a freon leak. In most cases the thermostat has been set too low( during this hot weather) and the inside( evaporator coil) has frozen up and air will not pass thru a frozen coil. If there is ice on the Larger( suction) line going to the outside condensing unit and the inside coil; it has been set to low!( thermostat).. turn off 3-4 hours and defrost, turn back on and set at no lower than 70 degree's. Check your air filter also and change if dirty. good luck, stay cool!|||If your unit has a freon leak, I believe that the repairman will be not allowed to add anymore freon until the leak has been fixed. Those are the new rules now.
whether or not they will adhere to these rules, is another thing. I understand that the penalities are getting quite severe for releasing hydrocarbons into the air.
should the guy/gal be willing to add freon, the cost for the service call will be around 70-75 for the call. Then add the cost of the freon to the bill and any other parts that are needed. So look for something around 100-150.|||fordman is right.
A reputable AC company has to fix the leak first.
And they usually have to replace the filter dryer when they do so. Bi-flow filter dryers are best.
Then a good company or AC tech will purge the line with nitrogen, and pressure test the line before adding Freon.
You just cant add Freon with out cleaning the line after fixing the leak, because not cleaning the line will make for more problems later.
Regardless, your looking at $200 and up for such a service to do the job right.

SERVICE and SUPPORT CHARGE Do i have to have them if i dont need them?
I live in a new bungalow and i have a letter from Magna Housing Assosiation and i am only 58 years old and i cant wait to move in next week, however i got the letter saying Rent = 拢90.01 a week and thats dear but thats life so its ok, but what about service charge and support charge? i dont need these services so can i cancel them or reduce them ALOT?? BIG HELP! x|||Those "Service and Support" Charges will cover common-area maintenance and repairs (landscape, sidewalks, lighting and so forth) as well as services such as trash removal, snow removal and the like. All services that benefit you (as well as all other residents) and so part of the cost of being in that development.
Read your deed/lease/association agreement carefully to see exactly what is covered under these charges - and see if there are any that are truly optional. That is unlikely, but possible. The solicitor says the lease in the flat we're buying is defective because of unspecified service charge.?
Me and my wife are at the final stages of buying our first flat. All went smoothly until our solicitor found a defect in the lease. The freeholders are Richmond council who claim the lease is not defective and is backed by legislation. Our solicitor claims its definitely not so. The defect means that at any time Richmond council (or the free holder at the time) can charge us service charges for work done on other buildings in the estate which do not relate to us. As well indemnity insurance is not possible as no insurer will insure an unspecified service charge as such. The solicitor says other flats sold in that block must be because their solicitors did not read the lease properly and that our lender won't lend us the money for such a property with defective title.
This flat was perfect for us and took us a very long time to find. Should we back off if no solution is found, or try to find a way to proceed regardless?
We're very desperate at this stage. Any advice appreciated.|||Looks like you will have to find somewhere else.|||Listen to your solicitor - you need to weigh up a little disappointment now with years and years of being hit with huge maintenance bills for other peoples flats!!
Edit: It is not unlikely that the Council will charge you for work carried out on the estate. If they can, they will, especially now it has been pointed out to them, and they are claiming that it is backed by legislation!! Not a risk I would be prepared to take. Service charges can be hard enough anyway without adding other buildings into the equation!!|||This sounds like overseas, but here in the states those issues are usually addressed through the severability clause of the agreements, in where a certain disputed clause can be severed from the agreement and the remainder of the agreement continues to be enforceable. I'd bail unless there was a resolution. You need to leave the emotion to one side on this one, because it could really come back to bite you. It may be frustrating, but don;t ignore theri advice as you could get seriously stung.|||I know what your going through! I've just bought my first flat and had similar problems - it took me 4/5 months in total from having my offer accepted to moving in, but you'll get there :)
My ground rent / service charges on the lease did not match the deeds so my solicitor refused to exchange until the wording matched on both. Same thing, other flats had sold without this problem so this is what i did...
Firstly i checked with my mortgage company that, as it stood, they were still lending me the money and just waiting for my solicitors phone call to release the funds.
Next i had a contract drawn up to say that if my solicitor went ahead and exchanged / completed the deal, he or she was in no part responsible for anything that happens after this date. Both sign it. That takes any blame away from your solicitor.
If your freeholders are saying that the lease is not defective maybe ask the solicitor to draw up another contract for the freeholders to sign with words to that effect?
This way everyone should be happy. Dont under any circumstances wait for the solicitor to do everything though. I done most of my running around, phone calls and letters. If your willing to take the risk so to speak then go for it :)
Hope this helps and good luck :)

Can you object to a service charge?
Hi I have just been to a restaurant with my friends for one of their birthdays and we were charged a 拢20 service charge. I just wanted to know whether you can object to a service charge because I think it is very unfair that it is expected. Even though we were going to leave a tip. Thankyou.|||I think 拢20 is extortionate. I also think that when a restaurant or a waiter/waitress demands a tip or service charge, it is the height of bad manners and very presumptuous. Most people when they are happy with a restaurant and the meal that they have had will leave a tip anyway but I would never leave 拢20!! in my experience tips are usually a few quid as a gesture. If I was a waitress and recieved 拢20 i'd faint!!! lol
The next time you go for a meal, enquire with the establishment as to what their service charges are.|||I am not sure of policy in restaurants in the UK, but here in the US most restaurants automatically add a gratuity for large parties of 8 or more people. It is usually printed somewhere on the menu or posted at the host's station. I understand that tipping policies are different in other countries so I don't know if this situation would apply to you.
But really to answer your question you certainly can object to a service charge especially if you feel the service is lacking. It does not mean that they will take it off but if you have a legitimate beef chances are they will want to make the customer happy.|||In the UK service charges have to be advertised on the menu or some other prominent place if they are added automatically. They are ,however, entirely at the discretion of the customer and you do not have to pay the charge if you feel aggrieved or would prefer to leave a cash tip. It is sensible to tell the waiter who brings the bill that you object to the charge and also tell him why. If there was something wrong with your meal or with the service don't just walk out and whinge about it for the next week - tell the manager and give him a chance to put it right. After all, if he doesn't know about a problem how can he correct it?|||Standard service charge or gratuity is 18 to 20 % usually for parties of 8 or more. If your service was not up to standard and you think that the server does not deserve the gratuity added to the check you can always speak to the manager of the restaurante and explain that the service was bad and you don't think the gratuity should be added to your bill.|||The reason they add on the tip is because so many people don't know how to do math and figure a large group still only needs a standard tip. If your service was good then no I would not complain but if service was lacking then talking to management would be appropriate although they may just apologize not refund the tip depending on whether your complaint was made in a timely manner like food was cold did you eat it any way and then complain after wards.|||i had a place in the uk and there is no legal obligation to pay the service charge, most places state somewhere on the menu what % service they do charge- this does not guarentee that the staff will get it, some places pay per session flat rate from the tips( meaning the establishment keep any extra), and some divide it weekly on hours worked. If you like your service you are best not to pay service but give it to the staff directly so they have the option of pocketing it if the place is unfair. We used to have a note that any gratuities left went directly to the staff that served you which also indicated that staff had an hourly rate that was sort of decent- or ok for uk|||Yes .Unless it was stated on the menu or brought to your attention before you ordered. If you weren't informed you have every right to object. If I go to a restaurant that has service charges then I do not leave a tip/gratuity unless the service is exceptional.|||Before you order, read the menu. Will my cell phone provider charge me for using email/internet service on the Ipod Touch?

Since when does a bank adding a service charge to your account motivate people taking to the streets?
$5 a month? You would think it was $50 a month the way people are acting.
You think the bank doesn't have costs associated with processing millions of debit card transactions per day?
Cmon!|||I believe they've already eliminated it and refunded the money.

What is the difference between a monthly maintenance fee and a monthly service charge?
This is when opening a checking account.|||I believe that essentially a monthly maintenance fee and a monthly service charge is the same thing. I've noticed that some banks will use each term differently depending on the type of account. For an account that you have to keep a minumum balance of $500 in, the bank might use the term "monthly service charge." For an account that you have to keep a minumum balance of $5,000 in, the bank might use the term "monthly maintenance fee." And, concerning these two fees/charges, most banks will waive the fee/charge if you keep your account balance above a certain amount.
Some banks, however, will charge a monthly maintenance fee no matter what. This is mainly used for special accounts, ones that offer a great deal of services that are given to you because you have that special account. Kind of like a fee that's charged because they are providing extra services to you. A service charge is something you'll get if you go below a set balance. For example, most banks will charge you a service charge if your savings account drops below $100. I hope this helps.|||A monthly service charge is probably a charge every month. In some cases that is waived due to total balance in other accounts or loans. But you have to be careful how they handle that if you have a low balance. For example I have an interest checking account at WaMu and every month they charge $20, give me $20 credit, and then credit the interest.
A maintenance fee is probably something only charged if your daily or average monthly balance is below some set minimum. As long as your balance is above that minimum, the charge might not apply.
But read the bank's fine print to make sure what charges apply when.

Also, if the house is supposed be cleaned just once, or if it is a weekly or bi-weekly service has difference in pricing.|||This would depend on where you live. When I lived in a more metropolitan area I paid $100 to have a 3-bedroom home cleaned. I now live in burbs and pay $60 for the same service. BUT, the key is to find a cleaning person as opposed to a cleaning business. Cleaning business will charge upward of $20 per hour for one person - they usually send 2 people so you are looking at double the price. I know that my house takes 3 hours to clean - dusting, vacuuming, cleaning bathrooms and kitchen. I pay $60 but my cleaning lady likes to take a cigarette break or chat so she takes her time and gets it done at her own pace.

My landlord's agent wants to increase the service charge on my business property by 300%. What can I do?
The agent is new because the landlord is new and has just bought the property. My lease does not stipulate a figure but just says a 'fair proportion of the costs of maintenance to the landlord.' The agent is acting for the landlord and has included all his costs and a fee in his estimated expenditure for the year as well as provision for a 'sink' fund in case of future costs. My service charge is quarterly and will go up from 拢400 to 拢1400, around 拢5 a square foot on about 1050 square feet.|||Ask for an estimated service charge with a breakdown. Do you pay on actual cost or an estimate with a balancing charge or refund at the year end? I would suggest you ask them to quantify exactly what is their expected expenditure. Does the agent's managing fee have a specific price or is it 15% of any repairs? What is the avergae yearly price of service charge for leaseholders in small block of flats in london?

Can a LLC charge a Service fee that is not in the contract?
We are disputing a $1800 charge from the place that we had our vedding for a service fee which we are being charged however, there is no mention of it in the contract. Is this something that can be done?|||Hi There,
The "surprise" service fee is common in contract law. In general, fees that are not mentioned in the contract cannot be charged. However, be careful as there may have been an agreed-upon modification in the contract.
The best way to determine this is to ask for an itemization of charges according to the contractual terms, then review the contract (preferably with your attorney) to see if any of the $1800 stems from another part of the contract. If not, fear not - even if the charging company takes it to court, they will not win if it is not a part of the original or modified contract.
Good Luck,
Carlton

How much would a cleaning service charge to clean a 1600 sqr. foot home to get ready for auction?
The house was very dirty and had not been occupied. We had to throw out trash and make the house look presentable for open house. Their was no water, electricity, and it was way out in the country.|||Hello, I just thought I would help you out a little with this question. Most cleaning companies average about $20-$30.00 per hour per person. I own my own cleaning business, Sparkle 4 U, and I am very familiar with the place that you are describing and the time it may take to clean this place. I am not sure if you have really started the clean or are having someone clean it, but here are some factors. Ex. I cleaned a place that had been abandoned for over a year. although walking through the place it did not look that bad, the place was very dirty once I had stated this job. abandon places are usually filled with dead bugs under the fridge in the cabinets and in the window seals...etc. Refrigeraters need deep cleaning as well as ovens....and so on. These jobs call for long hours usually needing 1-2 people to do the job taking 5,10 and even 20hrs. depending on the condition. Also keep in mind, you also talked about getting rid of a lot of trash, that is an extra expense on top of the hourly. (disposal fee approx. $50.00-$75.00) The place I did for 15 hrs by myself cost $325.00, I should have charge more for the extras I had done, but I didnt want to go to far above the actual estimate of $250.00. Although cleaning companies base per hour, they actually guestimate the hours it will take to clean and give an estimate, sometimes going by an hourly rate can hurt you in the long run, because you will do more in an hour and get paid less. I have a website and you can look at some of the pics I have. I just did a place that was beyond dirty and it took 8 hours just in the kitchen and it wasnt even finished! Take a look! http://www.sparkle4u.webs.com/ I hope I was able to help!
How much would a maid service charge to clean an average two bedroom apartment?
Hey there, I used to have a 2 bedroom apartment where I used to live, and looked into getting maid service done. Of course it depends on the company, but I looked at Merry maids and they charged by the hour, not by the size, so it just depends on how messy your place is I guess. Good luck!|||I checked into this recently, and it depends on a lot of things.
Basically, they will want to do an initial deep cleaning and then regular maintenance. The initial deep cleaning will probably run 4 hours and the maintenance might be one to two hours every other week or two hours once a month. Here in the Seattle area $50+ an hour isn't unreasonable.
Things that will effect the cost:
Your location -- it will be cheaper in Alabama than in New York City
the experience and insurance protection the maid has -- Joe Blow maid on craigslist can be cheaper but riskier than a licensed and bonded maid that works for a maid service company like merry maids.
What tasks you want done -- cleaning a fridge is more costly than than a quick dusting, vacuuming %26amp; tidying.
Well, that's the perspective of someone that priced maids recently -- perhaps a maid will answer and give you more insight. . .|||I had a friend that would do it for 8 dollars an hour, but that was @ least 10 years ago.

Can anyone help rent property for an investor or do you need a special licence.|||generally a property manager harrasses the tenants of a house or apartment about the fine points of the lease, make sure rent is paid on time, and make sure the property isn't being run down.....and i think a rather standard fee is roughly ten percent of monthy rent....and i don't think it requires anything more than a business license, but usually most prop. mgrs. are also real estate agents....hope this helps...
Tipping: If a 18% service charge is added to your services?
is that considered a tip? do people normally tip in addition to the service charge? That seems like a lot.|||I certainly would consider it a tip and wouldn't pay a penny more! That is the epitome of arrogance and adds no incentive for the employee to do a great job if the tip is built in.|||Watch out for places that put a mandatory tip on your bill. Hell yeah that's a tip. Please can you tell me if it is correct for a garage to offer a service then charge VAT for the service?
Please can you tell me if it is correct for a garage to offer a service then charge VAT for the service if you pay with your switch card, or no VAT if you pay cash. I am very unhappy about not being told before hand that this is the case as I could have saved 拢10.50 if I had known, by getting cash from the bank on the way to the garage to pay for the fitting of my tires.|||The garage has by law to put VAT on all its services. If they are saying there is no VAT if you pay cash then that is illegal ( but it des go on a lot).|||The garage is on a fiddle. If this garage is VAT registered, it should be charging VAT on every transaction - be it cash or not. Obviously if you pay by credit card or cheque the details have to be logged in their annual accounts, so they charge you the VAT. If, however, you offer to pay cash it goes in the owner's back pocket and nothing goes through the books, so you save the VAT and they get cash in hand which they do not disclose to the tax office. I would like to know how much the U.S post service would charge me for a 0.57 kg letter am sending to my pal in Ghana if it would take like 5-6 days?|||Half a kilo ? It's almost $1 an ounce now to send something over seas. It's going to be at least $16+. And you won't know how long it will take. I mail things to Japan all the time. And it can take from three days up to nine to get there.
What is a service charge at a restaurant? Is that like a tip?
I took my mom out to a restaurant and the bill came out to like $137. Then they took 18% "Service charge"
Is that a tip that goes towards the waiter basically?
I still put on another $20.
I was confused and now I am worried that that was too little but can;t go back in time.
Im confused as to what that was...A service charge was like a tip they already took out themselves?|||Gratuity is the tip.
It's bullyish, since they decide what percent you are going to leave.
To Megan: The only reason your hotel pays servers $18.00/hour is because they collect this gratuity for them and pass it along in the form of salary. And if they used it for other expenses, then they are underhanded because they should raise room rental rates and not deceive customers into thinking the price is one thing and then tacking on extra at the end. Technically lawful, yet crappy to do.
P.S. If a server earns $18.00/hour, they don't need tips. It's serving a plate of food, not rocket science.|||It is like a rip off to overcharge you. Restaurants add these fees to cover things like raises in energy costs or a payment on the owners Mercedes. It is a dishonest practice and if they are fudging there they are probably not giving the customer top quality food. The servers probably are working for a minimum wage and rely on tips to survive. The owners service charge cuts into the servers tip jar.
If it were me I would let the restaurant know you were un happy with their practice and let them know I was going to a better quality honest restaurant in the future.
Good luck with this.|||Here's what happens. The Restaurant pays a tax on a percentage of each bill. This tax is passed on to the servers or wait help. When people (unlike yourself) Choose to not leave a tip the tax still needs to be paid and it comes out of the servers pocket. When it gets to a point to where the place of business cannot keep their help, they come up with service fees. But they don't always give it to the servers or help. So, it would depend on the restaurant. Ask the server if they are getting that service charge as a tip. They may and they may not.
You should always ask about the bill if there is anything that you do not understand---BEFORE YOU PAY IT!|||The service charge was the tip. You did not have to tip them but it was a nice gesture. After all, it was a good day because you took your mother out to dinner so a nice tip to the staff completed a good outing.|||(( @Steve- it's an annoyance, not a dishonest practice. I hate it just as much as anyone else but I've never known a single manager of a fine dining establishment, hotel, or any business using the 18% gratuity to "pay off their Mercedes."
I work at a 4-star resort where they do this. As a customer, I hate it, but as a manager it is the only way that we can do business, especially here in Florida during the summer months when it is literally dead. At a large property, every single hotel room, and every single ballroom, every restaurant, and function space--whether used or not--costs money in rent. Imagine putting together a five-day event for a fortune 500 company, and earning half of what you had to spend in rent, supplies, equipment, audio/visual, food, uniforms, etc, to even put on the event to begin with? Not to mention the fact that the things people generally don't take into consideration--linens always being destroyed and needing replacement, renovations needed, insurance, injury, property damage.. these things cost huge amounts of money. Believe me it has nothing to do with being "dishonest," it has everything to do with running a hospitality operation without going bankrupt. Plus the waitstaff at my hotel have a base pay of about 18 dollars an hour--well above minimum wage. Management gets that gratuity which in part helps them distribute payroll, which ADDS to waiters' overall income, not cut into their tipping pool. Where I work, we get the most business off-season in the county, and there were 47 people in there. We have between 500-600 employees, so how the hell do you generate a profit from that? Fees. I suggest you take a couple of business classes before you gallivant about something you know nothing about )) /endrant
...Anyway. The 18% gratuity, to answer the question, is added on to be distributed to management in order to pay off waiters, rent, and basically meet the financial requirements of wherever you are working. It is not necessarily the tip. You would tip based on the cost of the bill (without any gratuities/fees/tax included). The tip that you put on the bill went to the waiters (or, in some cases, the "tipping pool" that waiters have to split), and the 18% gratuity went towards management, which helps them distribute money where it is needed--staff basepay, rent etc.
@ Susan: that was my point. That does go towards the salary of the servers. But the way it works here is that they will throw other fees at you, like I said I would hate it, but from a business standpoint it's the only logical way to do things, ie charging huge amounts to use a function space, wedding cake cutting fees, what seem to be millions of wine service fees, package fees, just-existing-in-time-and-space fees. The guest is informed of them before paying, so it's not dishonest and truthfully it's the only way to be able to provide VIP business all the time. The servers also earn more because they do more, they aren't just serving food. Working as a server in a large hotel during banquets, weddings, and conventions is not the same as a waitress working at TGI Fridays.
Is that a tip that goes towards the waiter basically?

Do I have to pay service charge in restaurants in the UK?
What I was wondering is what the LAW is regarding paying service charges included in the bill at restaurants; I heard that it should be clearly stated on the menu before you buy and in the same font as the rest of the menu...|||Generally the going rate is between 10% and 25%.|||You will generally tend to find that in england as a whole, but London specifically, restaurants will put the words, "Service charge included" on the menu, and on the bill if you are not required to leave a tip.
As far as the LAW is concerned, as far as I am aware there isn't one. But if the service charge is not included (which will also generally be shown) it is usual to leave at least 10% of the total charge.
Also, please remember to make sure to ask that the kitchen staff be included. Sometimes we get overlooked!|||IF i do not get good service then I deduct it from my bill|||No you Don't have to leave a service charge but if you receive good service you should leave the waiting staff something as a good will gesger.|||I've been told that it's actually illegal in the uk to include a service charge on a restaurant bill. If the customer chooses to leave a tip all well %26amp; good. Check it out before you go eat out.|||If its stated on the menu and in the same font as the rest of the menu like you said you have to pay it. Though I'm sure if you didn't like the service and caused enough fus you wouldn't have to pay it. If you're not told about it at all then you shouldn't have to pay it.|||its not compulsery to pay the service charge in any resturant in the uk and think its cheek when they add it to the bill like your expected to pay it but its not not law|||It's not compulsory at all - and most of them add it to your bill assuming that you'll be "all british" about it and not question it. However, you're paying that money for service that you get - so if you don't agree with paying simply ask for it to be removed from the bill and they have no legal reason not to do so. The manager may ask a few awkward questions as to why, but you don't have to pay it|||they ask you normally before processing your card, they cant cut any extra money otherwise.. its totaly depends on you , if you wants to give some money or not, they cant force you.
we go to one restaurant regularly, first few times when he ask we use to give few quid but now we have stopped.|||No it is not compulsory and most places in England do not deserve any extra money for the poor service and food that they dish out.|||You can pay service charge only if you are satisfied with the service, it is normally between 10 - 15%
Sometimes service charge is part of the bill, then there is no need to pay extra unless the service has been outstanding|||i try to argue but i'm not very good so i end up paying... so they dont get a tip from me...

What is a fair price for an accounting service to charge in the state of Ohio?
My partner and I recently formed an LLC and met with an accountant about filing taxes/receiving quarterly reviews for our business. It is a partnership with no employees. What is a fair or average charge for these services in the State of Ohio?|||I have had a small business in Ohio for nearly 20 years. It depends on how much the accountant is going to do for you and whether or not you feel you will need to call on them to answer questions for you periodically throughout the year.
Our accountant was on a monthly retainer. They charged us $175 per month. They took care of everything for us for that charge and we could call them any time we had a question - like do we charge tax for this project?, etc.
For preparing our yearly taxes for the corporation (there were only 3 of us - all family members), they charged extra. Some years we paid upwards of $350 for them to do our year end taxes.
Good luck in your new business. After almost 20 years of ups and downs and a few more downs, I would never have had it any other way. Being in business for myself was/is the greatest gift I ever gave myself.|||Depending on the nature of your business and how complicated your books might be, there are less costly options to consider besides hiring an accountant.
We have a CPA to help us do taxes at the end of a year, and keep our own books using Quicken.
You can also hire a bookkeeper to do accounting work on monthly bases usually for $20/hr or around $200 per month.
If you decide to keep your own book or hire a bookkeeper, your tax accountant should be able to supply you with a list of "registers" (categories) s/he wants to use.
Best wishes.

How can a doctors office charge you his fee and his billing service charge another fee?
If I paid for my doctors service fee in full, with no balance, how come his billing service he hired, can send me another bill for their service to the doctor. Isn't that part of His overhead cost and not my respondsibiity to pa a separate fee?|||More info - what is the billing service billing you for specifically (does the bill say "Billing Service Fee" or something else). Do you have insurance - if so, when you go in, you may be paying the co-pay, which would not cover your portion of any tests or other services provided, in which case, the billing service is billing you for the portion that insurance did not pay (less agreed upon discount).
